Taken from our Travel Tips Quarterly, staying healthy while at an all-inclusive can be an illusive goal. To many, all-inclusive resorts are an oasis of ease, where relaxation is priority number one and an abundance of food and drink is within reach. However, unlimited dining and unlimited drinks can lead to unlimited calories, unless you follow these simple rules:
One Trip Buffet – Since our eyes are bigger than our stomachs, an all-you-can-eat buffet looks like heaven at first. Resist the urge to eat it all. Take a single trip through the line and fill only one plate with the best of the lot. There will be many more chances to eat later around the resort, if you need to.
H2Oh Yes – Water is the key to healthy living at all-inclusives. The more you drink, the more full you’ll feel, which leads to less snacking. Plus, staying hydrated is vital when you’re lounging under the sun and/or drinking alcoholic beverages.
Mix it Up – Speaking of alcohol, your all-inclusive resort will have a wide range of cocktails and brews. To stay on the lower-calorie side, follow a sugar-loaded margarita with a mixed drink (such as gin & tonic) or light beer.
Stay Active – Your all-inclusive vacation also comes with unlimited activities, so make the most of them! The more you play tennis, go dancing, swim in the pool, snorkel in the ocean, kayak and windsurf, the better.
