Most of the time when we get calls for Florida; it’s for a Disney World package. But, there are so many other cool places to visit. One of my favorites, since I was introduced to it as a teenager, is the Itchetucknee River in northern Florida. From mid-May through mid-September, it is the best river tubing in the state. There is a crystaline pool at the head spring feeding the river that is awesome swimming in the summer heat. There are picnic tables and hiking trails all around. It takes about 3 hours to paddle all the way down from the North to the South end (at a leisurely pace). After renting your choice of flotation device, park your car at the South entrance and then take the shuttle to the North entrance to begin your adventure. If you don’t want to bake in the sun that long, take the shuttle to the mid-way point and canoe, tube or kayak your way down for about 1.5 hours back to your car. The clear cool water is amazing and the wildlife is beautiful. From October through March, you can go scuba diving in the Blue Hole but you must be cave certified. If you love water as much as I do, it is worth the trip.
